Planes Trains and Automobiles and where's the Navy?
Travelling to NL, the fifth largest island in the world, can be an magnificent experience if you are prepared for the transportation necessary to navigate around the land of this beautiful island. Our ocean is vast and vicious in the early part of the Winter and Spring when the sea levels are at their highest. Our cruise ship industry has been growing in the last twenty years but where's the navy for instances like this photo above?
A province that has always been well equipped for first responders has seen a decline in immediate response, similar to the disaster that happened to the oil rig back in 2010 in Louisiana. Delay the need for response and the disaster story continues to grow . So, in an instance like this and the one in gulf of Mexico - where is the navy? Our Search and Rescue was moved to Nova Scotia maddening many sea goers in NL over a decade ago.
Our livelihood here in NL has built around the sea prior to any tourism industry and we have always been well aware of the risks involved. A navy vessel should be on standby at this location if we were still equipped with our reality, however, it is pertinent to understand that an identity thief is still very much on the loose and since February 1998, we have been accustomed to Veteran affairs being the victim once again. Their knowledge dismissed is criminal, especially for instances like this.
And now, the wonderful economic impact of the cruise industry is also at risk. Having opened our waters to cruise ships here in NL during the Spring is absurd! Did they not learn from the Titanic? Do they think we are still better equipped than the vicious Atlantic ocean you and I must respect with her gigantic icebergs? It's obvious - the navy is missing because the thief that's on the loose can't buy it. There's no money in it for them so they move the military out of the way and/or blame them and it's criminal.
As a born Newfoundlander, shocked to know who has switched my identity for a thief, I will continue to promote the seal hunt, our iceberg season, our recreational fishing season and all of the other wonderful attributes one can observe and learn from in NL. An educational touring ground for visitors and locals alike, Newfoundland and Labrador people are friendly with service to others and enjoy visitors to our homeland. We are a wealth of knowledge and hidden secrets and our tourism industry can flourish healthy and safely with maintenance of sustaining the military navy the Canadian Coast Guard, all of our strong enduring human resources and inspire others to do the same when one wishes to visit and show respect to NL.

That is the plan for elections 2025. Some of us, always pregnant with ideas know we don't need a church to make holy water. Our resources are essential and without land and water to sustain us ethically for business, our younger generation will not listen to you. From that first impression to the final link of goods sold to consumers over 2.3 million employees work in the retail sector in Canada, (Retail Council of Canada). So here are some tips for the old fashion politicians running our country to the ground. Power Up instead. We have seen this decline in the last 15 years and everyone is learning why. According to the Retail Council of Canada these are the key sectors to concentrate on for this upcoming election:
- End the Tariff War
- Fight Retail Crime, especially Organized and/or Violent Crime
- Drive Down Retailers’ Operating Costs
- Create a Level Playing Field for Retail in Canada
- Introduce Programs to Increase Retail Activity in Canada
The advantages of an election can spark new ideas, new community engagement and of course all surround our necessary advancement tool: COMMUNICATION. How we communicate with each other and then to larger audiences. Let's keep it real. The best communicators are expert listeners. We can observe these skills during debates. What do they speak of? When is the timeline of their plans for positive activity for business growth? Are they listening to women and women in business and education and health? Coming from a family background of hard working common sense givers, these days are no different for meeting our needs for a win-win situation. You know, the term, "I scratch your back you scratch mine", not "I stab you back and you stab mine." And then there is that sense that you can not reason with unreasonable.
Next week April 3, 2025 marks the 100th anniversary of Women's Rights to Vote in Newfoundland and Labrador . Can we see much advancement when women in Newfoundland and Labrador in this year 2025, are still denied the right to a home base business to develop a community? These are some of the reasons to
VOTE RETAIL. Over 50% of the population are women and the retail sector thrives on equal rights for both men and women. The industry protects trade and communication and since 1963 the Retail Council of Canada has maintained the inspiration of this industry. And yes, even those record stores.
What an opportunity right now for our local business community to offer supplements for those visiting Newfoundland and Labrador this season by supplying discounts or coupons to our visiting tourists, our come-from-aways. A coupon booklet from NL Tourism or QR square scan code could be a great incentive for tour operators to offer this coming season and build upon the greatest place to be this year, Newfoundland and Labrador. Now is the time to get your employees involved to support the retail sector, their jobs and our country's values. VOTE RETAIL is an ideal activity for your employees for 2025 Federal Election.
